TRAILS (Trauma-sensitive diagnostics and support in inclusive schools) was a research project (2022-2024) led by the University of Wuppertal in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, and funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). It aimed to support refugee students in grades 5-8 by developing and testing a multi-tiered system for trauma-sensitive diagnostics and interventions in inclusive schools. The project combined existing tools with newly developed screening instruments, behavioral assessments, and strategies to strengthen emotion regulation. Teachers, students, and parents were actively involved in co-development and implementation. Piloted with teacher training and evaluations, all data are now freely available as open educational resources.
